Star Trek: The Wrath Of Lens Flare

wrath-of-lens-flare

Finally saw the new Star Trek movie last night and was totally blown away by it. They even threw in plenty of references to the Original Series that got a good laugh from many. Ah, Chekov, you’ll never pronounce “vessel” correctly.
I wore my Star Trek pin, too!
I created 2 comics(here and here) in reference to the overuse of lens flares, and I couldn’t resist using them one last time in this photo totally intended to just show what I wore to the theater.
Oh, speaking of the theater… it’s been maybe 2 years since I’ve been to a theater(5th Harry Potter movie). Prices went up($7.50 before, $9 now), they now accept credit cards, nobody takes the ticket, and they’ve replaced the huge malfunctioning tv with a small flat panel at about the same distance.

Video: My cat drinks with her paw

I decided that today should be a CATurday. This is my kitty, named “Boing” because she always jumps onto the fence when we walk near it, so she can be petted. She’s been drinking water and milk with her paw recently. Not sure why. Never seen a cat do that before.

Enjoy sea otters, movies, and chocolate?

If you buy a 3 oz. Endangered Species candy bar at Walgreens before July 31st, you get a coupon code for a free rental from Redbox(a $1 value!). I just bought one, and judging from the coupon, the code likely expires after 2 weeks. It can be used for one night’s rental. The coupon comes with your receipt.

Endangered Species candy bars donate 10% of the net profits to help support species, habitat and humanity. The chocolate itself is 100% ethically traded, bought from small family-owned properties. The milk chocolate bar was pretty rich, and actually tasted almost like dark chocolate. This is the kind of chocolate you savor. Mine has a photo of a sea otter on it!

Redbox is a DVD rental company that uses vending machines at places like Wal-Mart, McDonald’s and Walgreens. Each night’s rental is $1, no matter how long you keep it(unless you keep it 25 days, in which case, you’ve just bought it). It’s a very simple, straight-forward plan. Credit card is required.

Walgreens is like Wal-Mart, except smaller and more convenient. They have Deerfield Trading Company Premium Soda, which tastes awesome. They use real sugar, not corn syrup.

Website redesigned

Kenny Chronicles is once again up-to-date with all the latest technology in webcomics. Some new things to notice:

  • You can embed a specific comic on your website/blog by copying the Embed code located to the right of a comic’s blog entry.
  • The ability to reply to a specific comment. Threaded comments are finally here.
  • New buttons above the comment box allow for some formatting of your comments without knowing html. Just highlight what you want bolded, and click the “B”.
  • I might start using the transcription feature to help out the search engine.
  • I might start using the storyline-grouping feature, too.
  • (added later) The archive pages are more useful. That extends to the tag/keyword pages.
  • (added later) The 404 Not Found page has a cool animation for no particular reason.
  • (added much later, June 14th) Sidebar now hides on lower resolutions to save on side-scrolling.
  • The Contact Me link works again!
  • Better organization.

I’m still tweaking some things, like support for smaller monitors(finished!). Eventually the redesign will make its way to the Spanish version of the site. I have other features planned, so stay tuned.

Book about the President’s dog being made by MAD Magazine

Found out about this from Tom Richmond’s blog. He’s the one that illustrated it. The blog entry has some sample pages and Barney Frank eating one of Bo’s dog biscuits.
Available for preorder, and will be available August 10th.
EDIT(7-28-09): It’s been pushed to August 3rd and is currently listed as “in stock” on Amazon.

A Father’s Day Card

A hand-made card for my dad.

Stop

It was time to update the blog section, and it might as well be this which you can’t stop.
The header image was also in desperate need of updating. Current Kenny, current font, update schedule once again visible.

Full search results are back

When I upgraded to the WordPress 2.8 several weeks back, it broke the Search Everything plugin, so I had to deactivate it for the time being. Well, now it’s fixed. Search once again also looks at tags, meta info, and comments.

If you’re running the Search Everything plugin on your WordPress site and are still getting no results on your site, set “Search every category name and description” to BLANK. Turns out that setting this to “yes” was the culprit that kept the latest fix from working. I’ve now submitted a bug report.

If you’re running WordPress, I highly recommend the Search Everything plugin, especially if you make use of tags. Including comments also adds a lot of relevant keywords that someone might be using to find a specific blog entry or comic.

Toonfest coming up September 19th

As is my habit, I’ll be making the long trek up to Marceline, MO(boyhood home of Walt Disney, and me as well) for Toonfest. The main events will be Saturday, September 19th, but I do urge you to walk around the day before, too.

This year’s cartoonist guests include editorial cartoonist Mark Fiore; creator of the comic strip Non Sequitor Wiley Miller; Hallmark Cards cartoonist David Mowder; and MAD Magazine art director Sam Viviano.

There’s a great parade in the morning with the cartoonists as the grand marshals. Plenty of events throughout the morning/afternoon. The highlight for me is when the cartoonists talk about their work at the Uptown Theater. VERY insightful, and so awesome to meet famous cartoonists. If you’re a cartoonist, this will be of very special interest to you. They also do free sketches!

Other cartoonists come to join the fun, many including original art in the gallery across from Ripley Park. I’ve had art there twice, and I might have some there this year, too. Since all my comics are now digitally-drawn, I don’t have many originals to choose from.

Big thanks to Tom Richmond for mentioning the lineup in his blog. I didn’t know that was announced yet.

Fanart Friday!

This first fan art comes from Swiftcutter, who surprised me with it 3 days before my birthday last year. He has lots of other cute fox drawings on his page.

Furaffinity users can click the image to go to the original submission page so you can fav it and such.

Also, during the Ninja Monkeys storyline last week, in response to the monkey vs. pop machine strip, Swiftcutter also threw me THIS piece of fanart:

Fanart Friday! Jedi Kenny

Kenny Kenobi

Today’s fanart comes from a guy I’ve played Halo and Halo 2 with many times: Jerry Jones. I overlayed his inked/colored version over his pencil version because I liked the way this looks.
